How Roman works in Slack

Install, invite, mention. Everything you need to know before adding Roman to your workspace.

What Roman is
Roman is a Slack app. Once installed, it joins your workspace as a bot user called @Roman and does work you ask for: research, reports, drafts, data pulls and follow-ups, using the tools your team connects.
How to install
  1. Click “Add Roman to Slack” and create your account with Google or your email.
  2. Click “Connect Slack” and approve Roman on Slack’s permission screen.
  3. In any channel, type /invite @Roman.
How to use it
Mention @Roman in a channel it has been invited to, or send it a direct message. Roman replies in the thread; keep replying there to continue the same task. On paid Slack plans you can also open Roman from Slack's agent panel.
When Roman posts on its own
Roman posts to deliver scheduled tasks you asked for, to follow up on work it was given, and to offer help in channels it has been added to. On weekdays it says good morning in the channel you use it in, and once a week it sends you a direct message with what it ran and tasks it could take on. It may also send you a direct message when something in your connected tools needs your attention. It never posts in channels it is not a member of.
Tools and data
Each person connects Google Calendar, Gmail, GitHub, Notion and thousands of other tools with their own account, so Roman only reaches what that person can reach. Roman reads the messages in the channels it is part of to do the work; how long they are kept is in the Privacy Policy.
Slack plans
Roman works on every Slack plan. Slack's agent panel requires a paid Slack plan; mentions, direct messages and threads work on free plans too.
Accuracy
Roman uses AI models, and AI can make mistakes or produce inaccurate answers. Review its work before relying on it.
